We are so thankful for the NACA program! We decided to purchase a home in March 2015. At the time, we did not know about NACA and we were planning to go with an FHA loan. With the FHA loan, we were unable to include my husband on the loan because his credit score wasn’t high enough. We did not have enough savings to put 20% down, so we were going to get stuck wasting additional money on private mortgage insurance.
Thankfully, an acquaintance of ours happened to be a NACA home owner and told us about the program. We immediately stopped house hunting and got into a NACA workshop. During the workshop, Candace thoroughly explained home ownership and she covered credit reports in detail. She carefully mapped out the NACA process and answered all of our questions. Once we heard about the benefits of NACA, there was no doubt in our minds that this was the only way for us to proceed.
In May of 2015, we met with our sweet and highly-skilled counselor, Kimona, who helped us come up with an action plan. It felt so empowering to have a clear, step-by-step path to reach our goal. We listened carefully to Kimona’s advice on our spending habits. She helped us realize we were making some unhealthy financial choices, which we needed hear. But, we were also so pleased to find out that, with NACA, my husband could be on the loan, which was important to us (and we were able to use his income, which got us qualified for a higher loan amount).
